2012, Here We Come!!
I grew up in the south of Texas in a family that was a regularly attending member of the Southern Baptist Church. I don’t mean an occasional Sunday, but every Sunday, as well as Sunday night, and sometimes even Wednesday night for Bible Study. In the eighth grade, I had a Sunday school teacher that told my mother I made her very uncomfortable because I knew more about the Bible than she did. I am relating this so you understand how familiar I am with end of day’s prophecy. The Book of Revelations in the Christian Bible, which is the cornerstone of these teachings, was taught regularly in my youth and both enthralled and horrified me. I find myself now confronted with the Mayan calendar and its similar predictions, interpreted by many, as a freighting, end of day’s scenario. The only difference is the Mayan calendar gives a date for this event – December 21, 2012.
Yes, it is true, for those not in the loop, the Mayan calendar alarmists expect a very dire year. WELL…I hate to break it to you – the changes have commenced with the onset of expectations.
Responding to the Mayan predictions with a fear based, high drama, adrenaline driven reaction will certainly assure that you will lose the opportunity of this convergence. However, this prospect of impending doom has the possibility to take you into a time of great questioning; questioning gives you the chance to set better priorities and find healthy answers to the meaning of your life.
As I step into the psychic space of my clients, I am not seeing the world moving toward some great cataclysmic Armageddon of good and evil that entails devastation on all levels of our world as we know it, but rather the opportunity for an opening is occurring in the form of weather, financial success and health challenges. Said opening is designed to collapse the polarity that separates us from one another and the earth. This polarity will, as is occurring now, appear to intensify. Then, depending on the level of love emanating from this planet, the fear mongers could be right – or it can just be a bump in the road.
These great separations exist in Politics, Religion, Race and Class. The answer here is not to homogenize the world but instead to relax division. You do this by taking down the barriers of opinion and resentment while building respect for differences and cultivating the tolerance to allow others and yourself to be authentically who you are. This process must begin with the self.
So, I would challenge you in this year to examine deeply the changes that need to be made in your life. Set new resolutions with a rare commitment and go after them as never before. Look at self-criticism, sadness, fear, guilt, personal prejudices, and the wounds of your life – look deeply – then connect, them to the addictions that are attached to those thoughts and emotions. Negative behavior patterns stem from the need to avoid, deflect or project that which you do not wish to own – the Jungian shadow. You will then be ready for the real genesis of a new world. It is my experience, on both the personal and professional level, that only through self-transformation are we then able to make the leap in consciousness that heals our world and ultimately the whole world.
Thich Nhat Hanh, Mahatma Gandhi and Jesus Christ said it best: “Be the peace you wish to see.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
“The future depends on what we do in the present” — Mahatma Gandhi
“If you release that which is within you that which you release will save you.If you do not release that which is within you, that which you do not release, will destroy you.” — Jesus Christ from the book of St. Thomas
